More employees than ever use AI in their day to day work + a paper which shows the reality behind the hype of education LMs
Hello, Learning Futurists 👋
A warm welcome to the June edition of Learning Futures.
This month has been yet another bumper month for all things AI and learning, with three key themes emerging from the various product releases, research projects and experiments that have taken place. Four key themes emerged this month:
Experimentations in Evidence-Based Approaches: This month, Carnegie, Google and others have released new “evidence based” AI-education language models and tools. These tools are designed to enable the delivery of more active online and blended learning experiences, with some potentially interesting implications for the quality and impact of online and blended learning.
Integration with Existing Platforms: We’re seeing more and more integration of AI capabilities within popular tools and platforms, like Google Workspace, YouTube, and Google Classroom. These initiatives are designed to support the adoption of AI by “planting” it within the ecosystems that users already operate in.
Increasing Use of AI in the Workplace: A report on the State of AI and Work by Asana and Anthropic shows that more workers than ever are using AI in their day to day work, increasing their productivity and effectiveness.
Challenges and Limitations of AI: We’ve also been reminded this month that, despite these advancements, challenges including the susceptibility to generating incorrect data (hallucinations) remain. These ongoing issues highlight that cautious excitement and experimentation is key when experimenting with AI, especially in the education context.
